I’m lucky enough to be able to spend some time at the lakes in New England with my family each summer. Catching the early-morning lake with fog just lifting is one of my favorite parts of the day.

This was a scene that caught my eye when we happened to visit one of our favorite restaurants on the coast of Maine last summer. We go no matter the weather and the quality of light on this gray rainy day just made these colors pop in a way I couldn’t resist.

I’m not sure what kind of tree this is. I’ve recently developed an interest in capturing different patterns found in nature. Here I loved the 3 different colors of bark and how the tree seemed intent on outlining each. And seriously, how often do you see blue bark?
